Fiber dyeing & Yarn dyeing

Common Textile Technologies

Do you know what the most common textile technologies in the present are? They’re ‘fiber dyeing’ and ‘yarn dyeing’. Despite their similarities, they are also different.

‘Yarn dyeing’ is a textile technology of weaving cloth after the yarn being dyed. In Japan, the fabrics made by this technology is called ‘’先染め’’, which means that the yarn must be dyed before weaving cloth. Usually, the finished products are called yarn dyed fabrics, such as denim and the material used for most types of shirts. In general, jacquard machines and rapier looms are the machines used for producing yarn dyed fabrics.

Next, let’s talk about what ‘fiber dyeing’ is. For example, a fiber dyed fabric is a fabric in which the individual fibers are dyed before being woven. Actually, only 8-10% of the fibers of the finished product is dyed, however, it’s still able to show a satisfactory visual effect. What that means, is that the fabrics made by fiber dyeing technology aren’t easy to fade.

In short, ‘yarn dyeing’ is a process of dyeing the white yarn before weaving cloth, and ‘fiber dyeing’ a process of dyeing the fibers themselves. It’s possible that both yarn dyed and fiber dyed fabrics have beautiful and complicated patterns or stripes, and the patterns on fiber dyed fabrics are generally richer in color.
